SCORING &
RULE CHANGES!
We've said before that we are always looking at ways to
improve the league and this summer brings a major update to our scoring
and rules. See a few of the highlights below and then be sure to
review the complete changes to
2010 rules before the summer season starts. These will be
published in our rules section prior to 7/5 when the adult singles
season starts.
-
Scoring changes - New
scoring system 40 pts for winning, 20 pts if you lose but win 1 set, 10
pts if you 'play' but do not win any sets. The only time you will
receive a zero is if you forfeit a match.
-
S-Rating (strength rating) - The
S-Rating (strength rating) is a variation of a game winning % which will
be used to break ties for division standings, determine
underrating, playoff seeding, wildcard selection, and skill
level changes.
-
Late match changes - We have
eliminated the need for a late score pass if 2 teams AGREE to play a
match late. However, as always, as long as a player offers 3
options to play in the regular play period, they never have to play a
match late unless they agree to do so!
-
Match scheduling changes - We
now require a player to respond and offer options to play by 5 days
prior to the deadline or they can be required to forfeit the
match.
-
Incomplete match changes - We
now require incomplete matches to be finished if either team wants to
finish. This just means that if a team chooses not to finish
before the end of the season, they would still get credit for any games
played, but would retire from the match so the other team
wins. This avoids the situation where a team in contention wants
to finish but the other team does not want to.
-
Inclement weather changes - We
have changed the cold threshhold from below 38 degrees to below 34
degrees.
-
Minimum requirement for court
reservations - There is now a 2 hour minimum for court
reservations. If a court is not reserved for 2 hours, then if the
match does not get completed, the visitors can ask that the match be
completed at their courts. This just distributes the driving more
equitably.
-
Junior changes - The 11 &
under league must now play a tiebreaker in lieu of a 3rd set if either
player requests it. 14 & under & 17 & under only play
a tiebreaker for a 3rd set if both players agree.

GOODSPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS - Chere Cormier, Houston,
Dottie Tieslau and Rich Tieslau, Alpharetta
LeagueTennis.com is excited to announce the
winners of our April, May, & June 2010 Good Sportsmanship Awards,
Chere Cormier, Dottie Tieslau and Rich Tieslau. Each of these players was nominated
by an opponent for exhibiting exceptional good sportsmanship on and off
the courts! We are proud to to have players like these in our
league! Each will receive a 1 year subscription to Tennis Life Magazine
for being such good sports!
So what is good sportsmanship?
Well it starts with being easy to schedule, pleasant and polite both on
and off the court and in email communications. Whether winning or
losing, a good sport exhibits their best behavior!
We want to stress to all of our players that
Good Sportsmanship is critical to the success of our leagues. Treat others
as you would have them treat you! And, if you experience a notable case of
Good Sportsmanship while participating in our leagues--WE WANT TO KNOW!
Just send us an email at support@leaguetennis.com with
the details along with the names of the players involved! We will
highlight the winners in our monthly newsletters and on our Website!
Great tennis is the footwork is the key
to great tennis, which is a fact too many players overlook.
I see far too many coaches and club players
concentrating--and in fact wasting too much time and energy - on one or
two particular shots.
It doesn't matter how good the shot potentially
is if you never get yourself in good position to hit it...
