Rafael Nadal's first fist pump Friday followed his second point in the Miami Open, when he kissed a forehand off the sideline to win a long rally. Thus began Nadal's latest bid to win Key Biscayne. ''Against Novak - 6-5, 15-30,'' Nadal said.

PARIS (AP) -- Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori are the only top 10 players not to feature in the list of players for the Monte Carlo Masters, the first big clay-court tournament of the season.

Angelique Kerber is back at No. 1 in the WTA rankings, reclaiming that spot from Serena Williams. Williams reclaimed No. 1 in late January when she won the Australian Open for her 23rd Grand Slam title.


Iguana causes a racket at Miami Open for several minutes (Yahoo Sports)
An iguana caused quite a racket during a professional tennis match at the Miami Open, perching atop a scoreboard and then scurrying across the court. The rather large reptile showed up at Court 1 midway through the final set of Jiri Vesely's 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tommy Haas on Wednesday, delaying play for several minutes. At one point, the unpaid spectator climbed down the scoreboard and ran across the court before winding up on top of another scoreboard.

Roger Federer has a reputation as one of the nicest pro athletes among his fellow tennis players and fans. When Stan Wawrinka got emotional in his post-match comments to the crowd after losing the BNP Paribas Open final, Federer sat courtside laughing. KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) -- Bethanie Mattek-Sands picked up her first top-10 victory since 2015, upsetting ninth-seeded Elina Svitolina 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday to reach the Miami Open's third round.

Ashleigh Barty stretched her winning streak to eight matches by handing former top-5 player Eugenie Bouchard a fourth consecutive loss, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in the first round of the Miami Open on Wednesday. Barty claimed the last three games of the match between two past junior Wimbledon champions whose careers have both been filled with ups and downs. Barty, a 20-year-old Australian, was off the tour for about 1 1/2 years, including a stint playing cricket.
